Your Free Eco Fund

Dear Yan, You are absolu...

The Pitch:

Eodine.com – Your Free Eco Fund

I would like to start with telling you how i came up with the idea for the Eodine project. I was sitting with some friends who have put solar pannels on the roofs of their houses. What i noticed was, none of them were talking about the effect on the environment, frankly i didn’t think they really cared. All what they talked about was how much money they were saving and how much money they get from the government for producing green energy.
It made me think. If we want to persuade the masses to be more eco concious, we have to talk money! It may seem superficial, but it is Reality!

How does it work, this “free” fund? Well actualy Eodine will be a reward program for people who buy environmental friendly products or services.

For online purchases; People will log in to Eodine.com, and they will be served a list of partner webshops with eco friendly products. For example: eco tourism sites, green webhosting, energy saving products,... If they make a purchase their Eodine account will be credited with a reward.
(Technique similar to a Cashback website ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cashback_website ))

For offline purchases we will work with unique codes. Let me clarify with an example: If you buy 3 energy saving lightbulbs of a certain brand you will get a certain amount on your Eodine account. You input these tree codes into Eodine.com and your account gets credited.

The reward money that is received will be automatically reïnvested in the eodine eco fund.

Why use Eodine and not one of the many existing cashback, coupon or promotions websites? With regular cashback sites, or coupon sites you get back a small amount of money. A lot of people don’t even bother to get some euros back. With Eodine all these small amounts of money will be put together in an investment fund, without costs. This fund wil grow, and after some time all these small amounts can grow into a nice capital. So it makes it worth while using Eodine. Eodine users will feel conected with the fund, as they will be able to see in what the fund is investing in. They will feel they are doing something good and they will benefit from it financialy.

The impact on the environment will be double. First of all, Eodine will be a promotion platform for eco friendly products. Second, investment funds will flow back to eco friendly business, providing funds for new initiatives.

Eodine itself will earn money as a fund manager and will get a percentage on the managed capital.

Comments:

Ayesha Bari says: Sounds like a great idea! Where does the money for the cashback come from though? From the companies who make the products?

Dan Frederiksen says: aren't you contradicting yourself? you say it has to be about saving money for the users but your premise seems to be one of pure altruism for the user. they buy products from you and you get the bonus money, not them..

and what will you use the money for when you have them..

Frederik Lamote says: Dear Ayesha
Thanks for your comment!
A very good question. I did not entirely explain how exactly a Cashback site works. Because i was affraid my pitch would be to long and complicated then.

I'll get a bit into internet marketing terms right now. In internet marketing there is something called "Affiliate Marketing". Let me explain affiliate marketing with an example: Let's say you have a personal blog, on that blog you talk about a book you are reading, then you can put an affiliate link to a book webshop (for example amazon.com). If one of your blog readers buys that book, you will get a commission. (for example you get 10€)

Now a cashback site works more or less in the same way. The difference is, if somebody wants to buy a book, they first pas by the cashback site. The cashback site will give a part of the commission to the person who buyed the book. (for example 5€ is kept by the cashback site and 5 € is given to the person who bought the book)

If the bookbuyer goes directly to the bookwebshop, he will pay the same price for that book. It only means more profit for the book webshop, because the webshop doesn't have to give a commission to anybody.

You have to see this affiliate commission, as a percentage of the price of a product that is for marketing.

So the money comes from companies who sell the products.

Frederik Lamote says: Dear Dan,
Thanks for your comment.
In my previous comment you can read about how a cashback site works. Maybe a mistake of mine that i did not explain it thorowly from the beginning.
Maybe you also understood from this explanation above, we do not sell products of our own, and that the "bonus" money is actually marketing money that is calculated in the price of a product.

It is not correct what you are saying. The bonus money received goes ENTIRELEY to the account of the Eodine user. We will not even keep a percentage of the money as the business model of a cashback site does.

With this money the Eodine user receives, he will automatically get shares of the Eodine Eco fund in exchange. As if you would buy a share on the stock market. With that difference you will be able to get shares of Eodine without costs and even one share at a time.
The Eodine user is FULL owner of the fund. He will be able to sell the fund and receive the money on his banc account.

The Eodine Eco fund will invest in Eco friendly businesses. This can be busineses that are quoted on the stock market, direct investments or even other eco investment funds where we see good investment opportunity.

I hope this gives answer to your questions,
If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to pose them.

Best Regards
Fred

Dan Frederiksen says: ok, so the buyer buys a product via you that has a higher price than normal which is a mandatory stock purchase of this investment fund.

isn't there a real risk that this amount is so small it's not worth the effort to track it for the buyer?
let's say they buy 10 euro worth of compact flourescent light bulbs and 50cent? extra cost goes to that fund. is it reasonable to expect them to want to track that or be motivated to buy via you then?

even if it's a large purchase of 2000 euro and they pay say 100 euro over the price in the mandatory investment fund purchase, do you really think they will pay 2100 and hope the stock goes up enough to warrant their mental effort in tracking it when they could buy it elsewhere for 2000 or less and not have to worry about following an investment for years?

Dan Frederiksen says: it doesn't seem to me like the incentive is anywhere near potent enough to to make any difference in a decision to buy for instance a solar panel system. does it really have a chance of taking ignorant indifferent people and make them see the light?

Yan Grin says: Hi Frederik,

why is your website doesn't work?

it seems like an idea as yours need a strong visual exposure... and when i copy paste your address, it gives me some Register Domain site... not good my friend not good...

Frederik Lamote says:
Dear Dan,
I think you don't get the concept of a cashback site. The product that is bought thru Eodine is NOT at a higher price than normal. It is a commission on a sale we get from a webshop for promoting them, this commission goes entirely to the Eodine user.

Let me illustrate with an example:

If you go directly to amazon.com, see a book that costs 20 €
If you go buy that same book thru Eodine you will also pay 20€ for that book. But amazon.com will think, Eodine has made promotion for that book and therefore Eodine will get a commission. That commission (for example 2€) will go entirely to your Eodine Account.

So if you would have bought the book directly on Amazon.com you would have payed 20 €
If you buy it thru Eodine, you will also pay 20 €, BUT you will get 2 euro back that is invested in a fund. That is why we call it a Free fund.

The Second part of your comment:
Indeed it's about small amounts. But cashback sites do work and have succes, despite the small amounts they pay.
With Eodine you earn more than with the average Cashback site, because we will payout 100% of the received commissions and will be reïnvested for free.

There are a mass of environmental friendly products that can be promoted.
for example:
Eco tourism sites, environmental friendly detergents, biodegradable clothes, green webhosting, ebooks, natural cosmetics, energy efficient appliances, a solar backpack,... So many eco friendly alternative products.

Check out sites like evo.com or ecoshopper.net for what is on the market.
Everybody needs some of these ecofriendly alternatives. A few of these purchases a year you can collect a nice amount. I you use Eodine year after year, let your capital grow in the fund. After a few years you will find yourself with a nice capital.

I hope, Dan, things are getting clearer to you. Don't hesitate if you have more questions.
Best regards
Fred

Frederik Lamote says: Dear Yan,

You are absolutly right.

The reason is, I heard about the good entrepreneur competition last friday. It was a real rush to put together a good pitch.

For the moment, the domain name is now redirected to the Eodine blog.

Let me congratulate you with your very nice designs on your Website. I'll contact you if i need a good designer.

Best Regards
Fred

Yan Grin says: Hi Frederik,

That explains it... and that's absolutely fine, we all had those rush moments and it is understandable.

I'll be more than happy to assist in case of your need in my services.

All the best and Good Luck! :o)

Kind Regards,
Yan G.
