The Pitch:

Every time i go to the gas station or supermarket or just about any type of shopping center i see trash cans full of reciepts. The gas station by my home right outside of the door is always full of receipts. Ditto for the supermarket, except theres is larger and always fuller.
Why not simply load the receipt on your credit card or debit cards data chip? I think it would perhaps be feasable to either do this or also possibly e-mail the reciept to your e-mail account. That way if you needed the receipt to return merchandise or for tax purposes you could simply print out the reciept from your e-mail account. For tax purposes you could simply set up a new series of folders in your e-mail account. If the e-mailing idea is not feasable then some type of reader that is attachable to your PC could be designed to periodically download the info on your PC. Of course even in the developed world not every one has a debit or credit card, so for the time being merchants would still need to have the capability to issue paper reciepts.

Kathryn Davies says: Interesting. I bought one coffee the other day and the receipt was about as big as an A5 piece of paper!

Jorge Amores says: "If the e-mailing idea is not feasable then some type of reader that is attachable to your PC could be designed to periodically download the info on your PC.".....and then you will extra pay for printing the invoice at home (Paper, electrecity and so on???)

Dan Frederiksen says: it's a good idea to store the transactions digitally, either on the card or the creditcard company. much easier to do the accounting too because you always have all the receipts. I'm not sure how much of a difference that single thing will matter overall but it's worth doing.

Tom Miller says: Nice idea
I think a card of some description would be the way, I already get enough marketing emails from random shops.
Security/ forgery may be an issue with electronic system

Not sure about the rest of the world but I (Aussie) do my all my tax online so there would be no reason to print them out (save for returning things to stores)
