Hi Ron - many thanks for yo...

The Pitch:

SpeedSell are passionate about reducing waste. We give you an instant online offer to buy unwanted items on our website (http://www.speedsell.com ), with free collection from your home or workplace. You are paid within a week by cheque or PayPal. We recondition and resell items in secondary markets (like eBay, Amazon and so forth), and profit from the difference between the buying and selling prices. Sellers value the ease and speed of the process. We are already trading Apple Mac laptops, games consoles and games: in the next year we will diversify to trade a wide range of consumer electronics, sports gear, DIY gear, baby gear, furniture, jewellery and so forth. SpeedSell is delivered using advanced analytics to predict market resale prices, and complex IT and operations to manage secondhand trading efficiently.

Ron Downey says: Hi George
Like the idea and for someone who has three old laptops in the garage I get where you are coming from. You have lots of competition and feel you need to pull away from them by being that bit different. Sending a courier around to collect a laptop isnt really carbon friendly. Could parents not send the pcs and games consoles in with kids to school and you have one or a number of central pick ups in a town or village. The school could get some money for books or whatever, PTAs are always trying to raise funds. Could you tie it in with Tescos or sainsburys in the vouchers for schools scheme.

George Bevis says: Hi Ron - many thanks for your comments, they are thoughtful and I agree with every point you make. It's good to reduce the number of collections, both for environmental efficiency and also to reduce costs. It's a key target for us to encourage many people to put their items into one collection - working with schools and supermarkets is a great way to do that, and is absolutely 'in plan'. NB because we use existing courier networks (like DHL etc) the incremental emissions generated (on top of the round the courier was doing anyway) is very very small, but we're still keen to reduce where we can.
