The Pitch:
Lack of street lighting is a terrible social problem in Africa. It increases insecurity, especially for women, and it leads to many accidents involving pedestrians.
As it is, African governments do not have the financial means to invest in infrastructure in a way that would provide proper lighting to the communities. In fact, they struggle to maintain and provide energy to the few street lights in place today.
At INSTINCT, we believe that with the right business model, the private sector can play a role in addressing basic social needs. Therefore, we believe we can operate a park of privately owned and maintained streetlights which will be financed by advertising.
Today the company operates in Ghana with an advertising product which provides free school transport to children in rural and peri-urban areas.
