The Renew Information + Recycling Network is scheduled for launch in the City of London in 2010. It will extend public space recycling onto the main street where 1.5 million professional commuters will walk past 100 Renew Pods. The Renew Network is deployed free of charge for the local authority, and recoups its capex through sponsorship and corporate news & announcements, as well as the content that is shows in real-time across its sun-light readable digital screens. The Renew Pods also provide significant security benefit as they act as a public broadcast network in emergency situations (7/7) as well as the recycling containers within each pod have been designed to mitigate the force, fire and fragements of an improvised explosive device should one be placed within the Pod. The company recently signed an exclusive 15 yr contract with the Corporation of London (2009-2024) to deploy the network and is currently engaged in securing similar foothold in the business improvement districts of Lower and Midtown Manhattan. Renew represents an example of a public private initiative, where private capital can help spearhead innovation within the public realm. KM
