The Pitch:
Because of growing populations, we are using the earths resources at an alarming rate. Experts estimate that the last remaining rain forests could be consumed in less than 40 years!
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing timber plants in the world, growing up to 60 cm/day! Unlike trees, bamboo continues to grow after harvest, producing more timber for the following year, making it a sustainable and renewable resource.
The mission of our non-profit organization is to focus on Bamboo as an agent for social change. Connecting emerging designers from around the world to grassroots manufacturers in the Philippines, producing high-end products, while generating income for the community.
Design, quality production, and community development increase the product's value. Project exhibits in Europe, North America, and the Philippines connect manufacturers to growing markets, and earn young designers international recognition.
This project was developed after a summer design internship in the Philippines 2008.
