Neural Energy Efficiency Network

Eleni, I must first than...

The Pitch:

My green vision is an intelligent software solution called N.E.E.N which stands for Neural Energy Efficiency Network; its aim is to seamlessly reduce the amount of electricity we consume within a defined area such as your home, an office block or city by tracking consumption patterns. The effort required from the consumer to use electricity wisely becomes nil and undetectable inefficiencies are realised earlier in the consumption process.

A N.E.E.N will continuously learn about consumption habits to intelligently identify energy inefficiencies, optimise and then publish smart recommendations directly to the consumer and onto other N.E.E.N's as part of a growing network, this will help N.E.E.N's evolve over time, including more advance features to redirect excess energy supply where needed for a small premium and to act as a common platform for electronic devices to be able to publish there consumption requirements for additional optimisation.

A N.E.E.N will help defuse energy oligopolies and price discrimination thus creating a fair and healthy environment for competition, in-turn more ethical and efficient products will become available a lot quicker giving consumers better choice and it will create downward price pressure across the board as N.E.E.N's continue to optimise. It will make the consumer effortlessly more involved in the pricing of electricity, providing an incentive to change consumption habits and it will give a certain degree of power back to the consumer.

andrew jehwo says: Please ask as many questions as possible, many thanks.

Eleni Pallas says: Andrew,

It sounds like a good idea.

A few questions:

Why is this idea important to you? How does it touch you and what motivates you to do it? Knowing all this will help you align your purpose with each action you take to use your personal energy efficiently.

Who are your target customers? How much does your solution cost? What are the foreseen and potential blocks that could interfere with a successful roll-out? Where would you start selling? Could this be rolled-out globally?

Thank you and good luck!
Eleni Pallas.

andrew jehwo says: Eleni,

I must first thank you for your interest and questions.

Why is this idea important to you?
Based on the general consensus there has been a lot of talk about renewable energy and not enough focus on sustainable ways to change our consumption habits. N.E.E.N provides this seamlessly and intelligently.

How does it touch you and what motivates you to do it?
I feel consumers of utilities such as electricity are finding it extremely hard to break or change consumption behaviour such as switching off lights or offices leaving computers & printers running over the weekend, there are thousands of other scenario that are almost impossible to manage without it overtaking someone’s life. We simply don’t realize the waste we incur and the true price discrimination associated with electricity, so a smart system that monitors consumption 24 hours a day, 7 days a week will undoubtedly play a significant role. It will work by constantly reviewing and systematically learning about such consumption patterns and then automatically acting on reducing any inefficiency it detects. This will have positive impact on the amount of electricity we truly demand.

Who are your target customers?
The target customer comes in three categories, the first is the most common and that is human consumption, you, I and any person or body that has the responsibility to pay the electricity bill, we all will benefit from this green vision for generations to come.

The second are companies or households who are already using green technology to produce there own electricity. Using N.E.E.N to optimize consumption behaviour locally could eventually mean excess electricity being transferred at a small premium to other less efficient areas of consumption, for example a neighbouring household, business or some other electricity guzzling entity.

The third is electronic consumption, any device that requires electricity to run such as your i-Pod or an MRI Scanner in a Hospital. This will require collaboration from electronic manufactures that could develop a standard protocol as part of their green initiative to talk with the N.E.E.N software, effectively providing each device type with a unique signature and generic profile about consumption requirements and behaviour, this will effectively create energy consumption transparency. As N.E.E.N gains more coverage it will intelligently recognize and recommend alternative products with similar characteristic that is more energy efficient, as consumers demand more energy efficient products electronic companies will begin to innovate and compete for green reasons not just for profit.

How much does your solution cost?
The initial start up cost will be minimal; it will require the consumer to install N.E.E.N onto a computer and a black box to interface with the electricity box. For more advance features an internet connection and a subscription fee will be required to communicate with our central servers, this will provide additional services such as wireless & email reporting on alternative product recommendations, upgrades and the ability to network with other N.E.E.N’s. Such networking between N.E.E.N’s will provide a vehicle to exchange consumption optimisation intelligence and to negotiate brokerage of excess energy demand between N.E.E.N’s.

What are the foreseen and potential blocks that could interfere with a successful roll-out?
There are no immediate threats apart from the possibility of energy companies trying to block the go ahead as they may not see the sustainable benefit.

Where would you start selling?
I would look towards Government Initiatives, Property Developers, Corporate Companies & Small to Medium Size Businesses, also companies who specialize in renewable energy.

Could this be rolled-out globally?
Yes, as long as a computer can be operated and the right people are in place to support the initiative.

Your questions have been received respectfully.
