About: I am 67 and still working because I have so much left to do. In 2007 I won the Inst. of Environment's Innovation Award for an adapter that saves 50% on lighting energy. I have quite a few innovations in industry and finance to my credit. I trained in marketing but spent time in the City.

The Pitch:
Retrofit adapters for saving energy on the old T12 and T8 floursecent tubes is not new but the big problem has aways been six foot tubes of which there are 70 million in the UK alone. To retro fit a 4 or 5 foot tube you have to take the cover plate off the lamp unit to isolate the Capacitor which would otherwise overheat. My idea was, well if you have to do that why not mount the new electronic ballast on the cover plate and simply redirect the supply wires. The customer now has a new unit using less energy. We do cover plates for 4 and 5 foot tubes which will save 50% energy but the six foot tubes will save as much as 70% because as magnetic ballasts become older they use more and more power. A new one would use 15% extra power but the electronic ballast s none.
