The Pitch:
The idea is based on the FACT that ALL CANNED FOOD IS EDIBLE LONG AFTER ITS EXPIRY DATE. In many developed countries (USA, Great Britain …) we have massive waste of food that amounts to many billions of US dollars each year; on the other hand countless human lives are lost each year due to malnutrition in Africa and other poor regions. I propose creating a chain of markets in those developed countries, that would collect canned food with expiry date that have already passed. This would be done by encouraging consumers to return their UNUSED, UNOPENED “spoiled” canned food, in return they would get some rebates on the fresh products from our market’s shelf. Then the collected “spoiled” food would be distributed either directly, or by charitable organizations, to the people in desperate need of food.
This idea is very controversial, raises some ethical questions..., but I would rather been unethical than watching countless lives being lost because hunger.
If this idea gets implemented, gains are threefold: fewer deaths of people; fewer killed animals and wasted crops; huge turnover of the market chain because of rebates that would be offered to the clients.
