The Pitch:

By adding lime to the oceans, we can reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Done on a large enough scale it can reduce CO2 levels back to what they were before the Industrial Revolution. At the same time in counteracts ocean acidification, another of the problems caused by high atmospheric CO2 levels, so it is beneficial to sealife.

Manuel Reiband says: Hi Tim,

Your idea sounds very interesting.

Have you thought of any commercial applications?

I guess you would need to find a way of selling this to the fishing industry, since they really seem to be the only ones to directly benefit from the process.

Regards

Manuel

Caroline Fricke says: Um, I'm sorry, but you neglected to mention what you would do with the co2 that would be released during the lime production process...?

rob doyle says: Thats right caroline! Lime and cement productions are some of the worst co2 contributors out there! Plus consider the volumes of material you would need?!!?

Dan Frederiksen says: I don't know the relevant chemistry but maybe the idea is to use lime stone?
if it could work it's not a terrible idea even though we should fix the problem and not just cover the symptoms. the problem is the use of fossil fuels, nto how to hide it.

also if this is an entrepreneurial competition, this idea isn't a business idea, it's an idea for a government program.
