A Green Future for Our Senior Citizens

I submitted the competition...

The Pitch:

I see the future trend of the world economy will be for it to behave more like the economy of one big country. We need to consider the whole world as a single economy. Therefore, we need to identify and leverage each country’s strength to generate more jobs and revenues. We see more and more jobs going to the east. After China joined the WTO, it benefitted much more than western countries. We need to think how to generate an international trade surplus for western countries as we can't run deficit forever. I still see there are opportunities for job and revenue creation for western countries in sectors such as health care, retail, property markets, education and financial markets. Here, I'll highlight an example in the health care sector.

For this competition, the Senior Citizen's club is an innovative business concept which utilises both finance and green energy in innovative ways to deliver a much-needed service while also reducing demands on government services for the elderly. In this way it reduces greenhouse gases and the self funding concept helps reduce government expenditure while creating more jobs.

There are increasing numbers of old and lonely people, people who need extra care mentally and physically in this country, as a result there is a significant and growing shortage of support and facilities for them. Due to ageing problems and pension funds crisis, people may not have sufficient funds when they get old. Therefore, we need innovations for old people’s home. I would call it the Senior Citizen’s Club. The reason I call it a club is due to the variety of services that could be provides in the Senior Citizens’ club and it could make people feel it’s better to stay in the club than their own homes. There are 10 million people aged over 65 in the UK. We would specifically target people who have lost their partners without ignoring couples as well. We need to create the demand for couples as well by making the club more enjoyable and sociable.

Dino Green says: Very interesting pitch !. As the ratio of the worlds ageing population compared to the working generation, increases, the drain on resources required to care for these people will be a significant issue that the world needs to plan for and tackle now !. Any solution that is self-financing, reduces public expenditure, and is benificial to the environment at the same time, is something that definately needs to be considered seriously.

Eva Zhang says: I submitted the competition entry on 28th July, and I found the same topic on Times newspaper today (3rd August), take a look!

thomas mariner says: The ageing of the population in Europe, as well as in Asia, is a difficult subject, that will keep getting harder to avoid.
It is an area involving significant social and economic factors, but also personal factor for each of us.
Great idea to propose some unusual solutions, and to make the subject more main stream!

James Frame says: An interesting concept which tackles a concern that is global phenomenon
Currently less than 8 percent of the world’s population is 65 and older. That will increase to 12 percent in 2030 and 16 percent by 2050, according to census projections.
So this is a problem that is that will not go away and needs action sooner rather than later

Simon Gard says: An increased awareness of healthcare for the elderly will help create more green jobs such as sit-in doctors, nurses and nutritionists. It's also good for the economy, elderly people as well as the environment.
