We quiz the co-founder of Lastminute.com
An entrepreneur is…
A bit crazy. One of the quotations that has always best described entrepreneurialism is Goethe: ‘boldness has genius, power and magic to it’. I think great entrepreneurs should try to live up to this.
The best advice I ever got was…
From my grandfather, who said “for god sake don’t become an accountant. Be a bookie – then at least you get to do it outside”.
And the worst…
I’m not sure, I tend not to remember bad advice. My father always thinks that my business ideas are a disaster so I’ve now learnt to do the opposite of what he suggests!
The most fun I’ve had as an entrepreneur was…
I’ve always had lots of fun but even more so now as I get to be commercially focused with luckyvoice.com and charitably focused with antigone.org, both of which I started.
I wish I’d never….
I don’t really ever think like that. Focus on what you can do not what you can’t do. Being an entrepreneur you have to become sanguine about making mistakes, and be pragmatic about trying not to replicate. Too much navel gazing and negativity are not things I enjoy or find productive.
In another life I’d have been…
A prison governor.
I said it would never work, but…
lastminute.com seemed to go ok!
