Hydrogen / the Future in Energy

July 16, 2009 View for printing

A New Mexico-based energy technology company announced plans Wednesday to develop in southern New Mexico what it calls the world’s first utility-scale, zero-emissions hydrogen power plant.

Jetstream Wind Inc. http://www.jetstreamwind.com officials said the $219 million plant would use electricity from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen would then be burned in a turbine – similar to those used by natural gas-fired power plants – to generate enough electricity to power about 6,000 homes and businesses.

Hydrogen / Fuel Cell Technology

Morgan features hydrogen fuel cell LIFEcar at British Motor Show

Tradionalist British sports car maker Morgan is breaking with the past as it shows it hydrogen fueled LIFEcar concept in Britain for the first time. The fuel cell and electric drive LIFEcar blends old-time Morgan styling with modern aerodynamics to create a car that gets the equivalent of 130 mpg (US).

A Economic Hydrogen Mass-production based on Renewable Energy will make the Hydrogen Economy a reality, to achieve the cost reduction is the goal and challenge. Securing affordable food for all and securing living standards.

Which other solution can do it?

Big EU Entrepreneur puts his money on Hydrogen. Quote Mr. Hayek / CEO Swatch

Die Technologie ist nicht neu. Sie zuverlässiger und günstiger herzustellen, ist die Herausforderung der Stunde ( The Technology is not new. To make the Technology more reliable and to reduce it's cost is the challenge )

Horizon2 is a Hydrogn Mass-production based on renewable energy resources and at affordable costs.

Methanol fuel cell selected by Ford

Car manufacturer's Ford, Toyota and Nissan , have become frustrated with Hydrogen fuel cells and are switching to Methanol based fuel cells .
These cells will be used as small booster packs for all electric cars and for hybrids, in order to extend their range.

Existing logistics and distribution, can incorporate this hydrocarbon without major changes, as they are already familiar with existing volatile liquids.
So the car that just puts water out as a combustion product is still some time in the future.

However Solarvasserstoffe for large scale generation remains a must . On the next upswing, Oil requirement will be heading towards 100 million barrels per day.
Which production can not meet . 580 Oilfields have peaked world wide . With production declining at the rate of 6->9%.and Interest in the Tar sands is declining. The ballance of energy will have to be found from some where. Or declining living standards. Nuclear power plants take at least 7 years to build and commission . So they will not fill the Oil Gap.

The possibilities remain the same :

1) a)Solar Hydrogen at the large generator level b) solar concentrating for boiler operation/steam turbine generation.

2) Solar PV in the home

3) Solar Thermal in the home .

4) Eco- Insulation Panels on the exterior of all new buildings and retro-fitting to older buildings. This reduces heating cooling energy by 80% and is the lowest in terms of capital cost.

The pattens to the fuel cells are owned by the oil companies. I am going to look for the articles I've read and post them here. Thanks
