During the last few years we've heard quite a bit about this, but - does it really work as a way to reduce energy consumption for consumers? And what about business? Personally I'm not that sure about it, but I'd be interested to hear your comments.

Hi Albert!

Very good question. I guess it depends on the scheme and how it works and whether it's properly audited, but I've been wondering about how voluntary schemes have been faring in the recession. Are companies still spending on carbon offsetting? And what about consumers when, say, they buy flights?

Or are companies and consumers looking at different ways to reduce their carbon footprint?

This is our area of expertise! Companies are still spending a lot of money on carbon offsetting, but they are also becoming more picky about which schemes they choose. Some schemes are clearly not delivering emission reductions, while many others are very difficult to evaluate.

My entry to The Good Entrepreneur is designed to address exactly this problem. It's called Carbon Retirement so take a look! And feel free to ask any further questions about carbon offsetting generally.

Hi Dan - that sounds cool - I guess the whole idea is pretty new so it's good to see someone trying to introduce some rigour to the discipline!

I can't see your entry though - is it up on the site yet?
